In the early morning hours of October 12, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Gregory C. Sammons-Burris was tragically cut short in Elkton, Maryland. Responding to a report of shots fired, an officer discovered Sammons-Burris's body between two townhomes on Gooseneck Court. It was determined that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The subsequent investigation into the death of the Wilmington, Delaware, man led authorities to a suspect.
During the course of their investigation, detectives identified a person of interest who was observed across the street from the crime scene in the crowd that had gathered. Investigators collected three shell casings and two live rounds of. 380 caliber ammunition near Sammons-Burris's body, though no firearm was recovered at the scene.
Ultimately, a man was arrested and charged in connection with the murder. The case against him was built, in part, on information from confidential sources and a wiretap investigation that had been initiated a day before the shooting. Following a trial, he was convicted of the murder of Gregory Sammons-Burris. An appeal was later filed, but the convicted murderer lost his appeal in the shooting case.
