In the early hours of a Wednesday in November, a burst of violence shattered the morning quiet in Chillum, Maryland, forever altering the life of 31-year-old Oshane Davis of Greenbelt. On November 3, 2021, Davis was at an apartment building in the 5700 block of 16th Avenue when he was struck by gunfire. Despite his injuries, he managed to get into a vehicle and drive less than a mile away, determined to find help at a business located in the 1300 block of Chillum Road.
It was there,
around 9 a.m., that officers from the Prince George's County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting. They discovered Davis suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched, and he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, his efforts to seek aid were in vain, and he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving. The initial investigation into his death was immediately launched as a homicide, with detectives working to identify who was responsible and what led to the fatal encounter.
For nearly a year, the investigation into the death of Oshane Davis continued. Then, in the fall of 2022, a significant breakthrough was made. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit identified a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. Beran Samuels, a 27-year-old man from Chillum, was arrested and charged with the murder of Oshane Davis. Samuels faced charges of first-degree murder and other related offenses. Following his arrest, he was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status.
