In the late afternoon of May 15, 2024, a dispute between two acquaintances in Adelphi, Maryland, escalated to a fatal conclusion. Twenty-year-old Kevin Moscoso-Lopez was shot and killed during the argument. Prince George's County police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1900 block of Erie Street at approximately 3:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Moscoso-Lopez outside, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation pointed to an argument as the precursor to the deadly shooting. Authorities identified 21-year-old Erick Pineda of Silver Spring as the suspect. It was determined that Pineda and Moscoso-Lopez were known to each other, though the specific nature of their relationship and the details of their final argument have not been publicly disclosed. Following the incident, law enforcement began a search for Pineda.
Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit charged Erick Pineda with first and second-degree murder, along with related charges, in connection with the shooting death of Kevin Moscoso-Lopez. Pineda was subsequently taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
