On the late evening of July 30, 2021, a transaction set to take place on Ryderwood Court in Landover, Maryland, turned fatal. Seventeen-year-old Kyree Duvall, a male resident of Hillcrest Heights, had arranged to meet with 20-year-old Camisha Jenifer, also from Hillcrest Heights, for the purpose of a gun sale. What precisely transpired during their interaction remains unclear, but the meeting escalated into violence.
Just before midnight, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police were
dispatched to the 1800 block of Ryderwood Court following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Kyree Duvall in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later. The initial investigation at the scene pointed to a deadly exchange of gunfire.
About an hour after the initial shooting, Camisha Jenifer arrived at an area hospital, having driven herself there for treatment of a gunshot wound she sustained. Before she succumbed to her injuries, she was able to communicate with officers, confirming that she knew Duvall. The preliminary findings of the investigation led detectives to believe that during the gun sale transaction, an altercation occurred, resulting in Duvall and Jenifer shooting each other. Jenifer also died from her wounds at the hospital, making her the second fatality of the tragic encounter. The case was investigated by the Homicide Unit, which determined it to be a result of the violent transaction between the two individuals.
