A Black male known affectionately as 'Lil Baby,' Astin was a vibrant and outgoing child, recognized for his intelligence and adventurous spirit. He was a student in the Richland County School District and a passionate football player for the Metro Warriors and the Blythewood Bengals.
On the evening of Friday, July 22, 2022, events took a devastating turn.
Astin's mother had asked him to go upstairs to do her a favor when a loud noise, initially mistaken for a fallen object, echoed through the house. Moments later, other children in the home alerted her that Astin was severely bleeding. He was discovered in a second-floor bathroom with a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response from deputies of the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Astin succumbed to his injuries.
