In a tragic turn of events on Sunday, March 25, 2018, 30-year-old Cory Cornelius Jenkins, a male resident of Columbia, South Carolina, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded shortly after 9:00 p.m. inside a home on Samson Circle in North Columbia. When Columbia Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jenkins unresponsive. The Richland County Coroner later confirmed that he died from complications of gunshot wounds to his upper body.
At the residence, officers
also found a 64-year-old man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper arm and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. In a further development, two other men later arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. One had been shot in the upper body, while the other was treated for a leg injury and released. Investigators have been working to determine if these individuals were connected to the shooting on Samson Circle.
In the days following the shooting, the Columbia Police Department identified 18-year-old Gwan Lamont Perry Jr. as the suspect in the fatal incident. Authorities issued warrants for Perry's arrest on charges of murder, attempted murder, and attempted strong-arm robbery. Investigators believe that an argument preceded the deadly shooting.
Cory Cornelius Jenkins was born on October 13, 1987, in Columbia, South Carolina. A graduate of Richland Northeast High School's class of 2005, he went on to earn a certification in craftsmanship. He was known as an outgoing individual who was full of life and had a passion for caring for others, often taking the time to feed the homeless. He was the co-owner of a seafood business and also worked for a lawn service. He was an active member of his church, where he had been baptized at the age of 17.
