In the spring of 2019, the life of 20-year-old Dominique Profit was cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. On the afternoon of Friday, May 10, 2019, gunshots rang out in the 400 block of Percival Road. When Richland County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 2 p.m., they discovered Profit had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body. The Richland County Coroner's Office confirmed that he died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred at an apartment complex.

Known affectionately as 'Head' or 'Domu,' Dominique was remembered as a hardworking and devoted father, son, brother, and friend. His obituary described him as having a smile that could light up a room and a heart of gold, with a strong belief in family. He was educated in Richland County public schools and had attended A. C. Flora High School. Friends and family recalled him as a great person who was funny and cool, and who deeply loved his child.

The investigation into Profit's death led to an arrest later that month. On May 31, 2019, the Richland County Sheriff's Department took 21-year-old Jujuan Jameal Council into custody. He was apprehended on Longcreed Drive and subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the shooting. Following his arrest, Council was booked at the Richland County Detention Center.
