First Known Murder

On August 22, 1982, 11-year-old Richard "Ricky" Stetson went jogging along the Back Cove Trail in Portland, Maine. When he failed to return home, his parents alerted the authorities. The following day, a motorist discovered Ricky's body beside Interstate 295. He had been strangled, stabbed multiple times, and showed signs of bite marks. Despite initial investigations, the case remained unsolved until Joubert's later confessions.

Murders in Nebraska

After moving to Nebraska, Joubert continued his violent spree. On September 18, 1983, 13-year-old Danny Joe Eberle disappeared while delivering newspapers in Bellevue, Nebraska. His bicycle and undelivered newspapers were found along his route. Three days later, Danny's body was discovered approximately four miles from where his bike was found. He had been bound, stabbed multiple times, and showed signs of restraint.
