Michael Andrew Abner: Kentucky's Notorious Serial Killer

Background

Michael Andrew Abner, a serial killer from Somerset, Kentucky, was responsible for at least three murders spanning over two decades. His crimes shocked the small community and left a lasting impact on the victims' families.

The First Murder: Mamie Mercer

Abner's first known victim was Mamie Mercer, an elderly woman from Somerset. On October 12, 1983, Abner entered Mercer's home on South Hart Road in the Saline community while another woman who lived with Mercer was in the shower. He proceeded to strangle Mercer to death, unbeknownst to the other resident. This crime remained unsolved for many years until Abner's eventual confession in 2010.

The Second Murder: Mae Stringer

On December 2, 1988, Abner struck again. This time, his victim was 83-year-old Mae Stringer. Abner, who was 25 years old at the time, entered Stringer's home on Ringgold Road and strangled her to death. To cover up his crime, he set the house on fire, leading investigators to initially believe that Stringer had perished in the blaze. It wasn't until years later that the truth about her murder came to light. ...Read More
