Overview
On November 2, 1999, Xerox technician Byran Koji Uyesugi opened fire on his co-workers during a morning meeting at the Xerox Engineering Systems building on 1200 North Nimitz Highway in Honolulu, Hawaii. In a matter of minutes, seven employees were killed—Hawaii’s deadliest mass shooting. Uyesugi fled the scene in a company van, triggering a citywide manhunt and an hours-long police standoff before surrendering that afternoon.The Crime
According to court records and contemporaneous reports, Uyesugi entered the second floor where a staff meeting was underway and began shooting with a Glock 17 9mm pistol. Investigators later testified he fired 28 rounds, striking victims with 25 of them, and reloaded once during the attack.
