Adolphus Christopher Morris and the 2026 Burke County Quadruple Homicide
Adolphus Christopher "Chris" Morris was identified by Burke County, Georgia, investigators as the suspect in a violent series of shootings that left four people dead and another man wounded in and around Sardis in August 2026. Because Morris was killed before he could be arrested or tried for the four deaths, the case never resulted in a criminal conviction against him. However, investigators publicly connected him to the homicide investigation, and later reporting described the killings as having been committed by Morris. As of August 17, 2026, authorities were still investigating the complete sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the violence.
The First Known Shooting
The known violence began during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026. Shortly after approximately 1:30 a.m., Burke County deputies were called to an RV on Screven Street in Sardis. Inside, they found a wounded man who had been shot once in the chest and twice in an arm. According to reports based on law-enforcement incident records, the injured man remained able to speak with deputies and identified Adolphus Morris as the person who had shot him. Deputies provided emergency assistance until medical personnel arrived. The man's name was not publicly identified in the reports reviewed, and he survived the attack.
Four People Found Dead
The investigation dramatically expanded on Sunday, August 9. Deputies were called to a residence on Twin Lakes Drive in Burke County after receiving a report concerning an unresponsive person. Inside the residence they discovered a man and a woman dead. The two were pronounced dead at approximately 8:41 p.m. Later that same evening, deputies were asked to conduct a welfare check at another residence on Tom Bargeron Road, only several miles away. Deputies reportedly arrived to find an open door, entered the residence, and discovered two additional women dead inside. Those victims were pronounced dead at approximately 10:17 p.m.
Early reports did not immediately release the victims' identities, and some preliminary information concerning their ages later proved inconsistent with obituary and family information. The four victims were subsequently identified as Betty "Tee" Holton Fort, Jessica Rose Carroll, Walter Homer "Meat" Bunch, and Rebecca Lynn Oglesby. Betty and Jessica were mother and daughter. Walter and Rebecca were described in their obituaries as a couple. Available reliable reports reviewed for this article do not clearly and consistently assign each named victim to either the Twin Lakes Drive residence or the Tom Bargeron Road residence, so those specific address assignments should not be assumed.
