On October 13, 2022, 15-year-old Austin Thompson carried out a mass shooting in Raleigh’s Hedingham neighborhood. Incident Details
Thompson first killed his older brother in their home on Sahalee Way. He then proceeded into the neighborhood dressed in camouflage and carrying multiple weapons—including a shotgun, a handgun, and a hunting knife—and shot several people, including an off-duty police officer. He eventually barricaded himself in a shed near the Neuse River Greenway, where he exchanged fire with police before being found with a head injury.
