On September 5, 2022, the Labor Day holiday festivities in the Park Farms neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, turned tragic during a late-night gathering. Dondre Hart, a 20-year-old Black male, was attending a large pool party at a residence in the 7300 block of Manchester Avenue, which had been rented out for the occasion. The event, described by some as a back-to-school celebration, had drawn a significant crowd to the backyard of the home.
As the night progressed, the atmosphere of celebration was shattered when gunfire erupted from the perimeter of the property.
According to investigators, at least two shooters positioned themselves in the backyard of a neighboring property. The assailants reportedly stood on chairs to elevate themselves above a tall wooden privacy fence that separated the yards, giving them a vantage point over the crowded party. From this position, they indiscriminately fired multiple rounds down into the unsuspecting group of guests. The sudden ambush caused panic as attendees scrambled for cover, but the shooters fled the scene immediately after the volley of gunfire.
When Kansas City police officers arrived at the home shortly before 11:00 p.m., they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple gunshot victims. Dondre Hart and another attendee, 26-year-old Deshawn Dudley, were found with critical injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Two other individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the attack; one was transported to a hospital by ambulance, while the other arrived at a medical facility via private vehicle. Both surviving victims were listed in stable condition following the incident. Despite the presence of numerous witnesses and the recovery of evidence, the case was subsequently listed on the Kansas City Police Department’s unsolved homicides registry, with detectives urging anyone with information to come forward.
