Rickey J. Nelson, a 16-year-old from Merrillville, Indiana, was tragically shot and killed on August 5, 2018. Rickey was found in a car parked at the Broadmoor Country Club Apartments, alongside 18-year-old Jamar Hines, who was also fatally shot. Rickey was known for his good spirit, cleverness, and dedication to his family and community. He was a student at Merrillville High School and was involved in the school's thespian troupe.
