In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, the life of 20-year-old Trevohn Maleek Marshall was tragically cut short in a shooting on Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Just after midnight, gunfire erupted near the Remount Road exit, leaving Marshall with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Two other individuals in the vehicle with Marshall were also struck by bullets and sustained serious injuries.
Emergency services were called, and Marshall was rushed to Atrium
Health Mercy before being transferred to Atrium Main, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The two other victims were transported to Novant Main for treatment of their serious conditions. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident, which they have classified as a homicide.
According to Marshall's mother, her son's friends who were present during the attack described a car pulling up alongside them and opening fire. While the motive remains unclear, the possibility of it being a road rage incident has been mentioned. Family members remember Trevohn as a bright and intelligent young man whose smile could light up a room. His mother made a heartfelt plea to the community for an end to gun violence.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and police have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Homicide Unit or Charlotte Crime Stoppers. The lead detective assigned to the case is Detective Condron.
