In the late morning of February 16, 2022, a 52-year-old Black man named Ameer Ledall Green was left at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The two men who dropped him off vanished before police could arrive, leaving a mystery in their wake. Green, a husband, father, and dedicated local barber, succumbed to his injuries a short time later, turning a medical emergency into a homicide investigation for the Metropolitan Nashville
Police Department.
Detectives initially went to Green's residence on Janice Drive but found no evidence of a crime scene. The search for where the fatal shot was fired and the motive behind it began. The investigation eventually led detectives to a residence at 3710 N. Natchez Court. It was there, police determined, that Ameer Ledall Green had been shot. The motive, as uncovered by the investigation, appeared to be a dispute over money. This dispute involved three other men who would soon become the primary suspects in Green's murder.
The path to justice was a lengthy one, stretching over a year. The investigation identified three individuals believed to be responsible for Green's death: Kevin Bwenge, age 24, William Churchwell, age 32, and Jamion Wynn, age 28. Bwenge and Churchwell were the first to be charged. Churchwell was already incarcerated, facing charges for the murder of another individual, Charley Marie Koole, when he was implicated in Green's case. The final suspect, Jamion Wynn, who had been placed on the Warrants Division's Most Wanted list, remained at large.
A crucial breakthrough came on the evening of June 1, 2023. A citizen's tip directed law enforcement to the very same North Natchez Court residence where the shooting had occurred. The caller reported seeing Jamion Wynn at the location. Coordinated police work involving Violent Crimes detectives and officers from the South, Midtown, and North Precincts led to Wynn's apprehension at the residence. With his arrest, all three suspects were in custody and faced charges of criminal homicide for their alleged roles in the death of Ameer Ledall Green. The investigation, led by Sergeant Trevor VonDohlen, highlighted the importance of community assistance in solving violent crimes.
