In the early hours of a January morning in 2015, a tragedy unfolded within the walls of a Nashville apartment complex, forever altering the lives of a local family. Frank Boone, a 27-year-old Black male, was found deceased on the floor of his residence at the Gazebo complex on Neese Drive on January 18, 2015. His life was cut short in a violent act that also claimed the life of his mother, Janet Boone.
Police were initially called to the scene after reports of gunshots.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Frank Boone's body and found his mother critically injured in a nearby bedroom. Despite being rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Janet Boone succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. The devastating event left the community in shock and a family mourning the loss of two of its members. Frank was remembered by his family as a humble man who had a deep love for his family, people, and animals, with a particular passion for fishing and music.
The investigation into the double homicide took a startling turn when a suspect came forward and confessed to the crime. Mark Silas Sebastian, who was 23 years old at the time, approached a police officer and, without being prompted, admitted to shooting both his mother, Janet Boone, and his brother, Frank Boone, at their shared apartment. Sebastian reportedly claimed he did not know why he committed the killings.
Following his confession, Mark Silas Sebastian was taken into custody and charged with two counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of his mother and brother. He was subsequently held in lieu of a $500,000 bond as the legal process began to unfold. The case highlighted a profound and tragic instance of domestic violence that resulted in the untimely deaths of Frank and Janet Boone.
