On the evening of February 20, 2018, Shamar Lewis, a 34-year-old African American man from Burns, Tennessee, drove to the Cobblestone Corners apartment complex on Ben Allen Road in Nashville. Witnesses reported that Lewis met with acquaintances who had arrived in a dark-colored SUV.
