Devonne Lamonte Smith, fondly known as Snook, was a 43-year-old African American male who tragically lost his life on January 8, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on July 22, 1976, in Charlotte, Devonne was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was well-known for his love for dogs, his keen sense of humor, and his passion for music.
Devonne is survived by his father, Robert Mitchell, his wife of nine years, Yvonne Smith, and his four daughters, Latigre Adams, Amarisha Adams, Amani Clyburn, and Ramika Spencer. He also leaves behind his brothers, Robert Smith, Theoplis Smith, and Pierre Accor, and his sisters, Sugar Smith, Penney Smith, and Charlene Thompson.
On January 8, 2020, Devonne Smith became the first murder victim of the year in Charlotte. The incident occurred on Feldbank Drive at approximately 3:08 a.m. Patrol officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers found Devonne inside a home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Another male victim was also found in the home with a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital. The relationship between the two victims remains unknown.
The investigation into Devonne Smith's murder is ongoing. As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with his death. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case. Devonne's family and friends remember him as a protector and a source of joy, and they continue to mourn his untimely passing.
