Samuel Harrison Stitt, a 23-year-old African American male, was found shot to death in a north Charlotte apartment on August 8, 2019. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene at the 1400 block of Ventura Way shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered Stitt with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The police immediately began canvassing the area to determine if there were any additional witnesses to the incident.
Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made, and the search for the killer continues.
Stitt's death marked the 69th homicide in Charlotte for the year 2019. The incident was one of three deadly shootings in the city within a little over 24 hours. The CMPD has urged anyone with information about the case to contact their homicide unit or Crime Stoppers. The investigation remains ongoing, and the police are still seeking leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrator responsible for Stitt's murder.
In the aftermath of his death, a candlelight vigil was held on August 16, 2019, at Camp Green Park in Charlotte to honor Stitt's memory. A Celebration of Life service took place the following day at Matthews Murkland Presbyterian Church, where family and friends gathered to pay their respects. Stitt was laid to rest at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young life cut short by violence, and the search for justice for Samuel Harrison Stitt remains a priority for law enforcement.
