Malik Fidel Whitney, a 50-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on January 29, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred on North Tryon Street, near Craighead Road, around 11:23 p.m. Whitney was found with gunshot wounds and was transported to Atrium Health's Carolina Medical Center hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. This marked the first homicide of 2022 in Charlotte.
