On August 11, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2200 block of Caronia Street, located in the Westover Division of Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Aaron Remont Thompson inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by MEDIC.
Shortly thereafter, a second victim arrived at a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, believed to be connected to the same incident.
The initial investigation led detectives to identify 25-year-old Marcus Darel Watson as a suspect. On the same day, Watson was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder. Subsequent investigative efforts resulted in the arrest of two additional individuals:
- On August 14, 2024, 20-year-old Devone Javar Walker was arrested in Harrisburg, North Carolina. He was charged with felony accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
- On August 20, 2024, 21-year-old Keandre Moore was apprehended and charged with murder in connection to Thompson's death.
The arrests were executed by CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies. All suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown Charlotte for questioning before being transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. As of the latest reports, the investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to contact CMPD's Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
