In the winter of 2019, the life of 21-year-old Cameron Briscoe was cut short in a violent encounter in Gary, Indiana. On the afternoon of February 3rd, Briscoe was shot at a Miller apartment situated in the 800 block of County Line Road. The Lake County coroner's office would later pronounce him dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, classifying his death as a homicide.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was a collaborative effort, involving the Gary police, the Lake County Homicide Task Force, and the Lake County CSI.
Two years prior to his death, Briscoe, then 19, found himself on the other side of a criminal investigation. He, along with two other young men, Kevon Dixon and Fo'Tre White, was charged in connection with a home invasion and the shooting of a retired Gary police captain. The charges against them were serious, including aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and residential entry. During that incident, the trio forced their way into the retired officer's home, where Dixon shot and wounded him. Briscoe and White were taken into custody at the time of the initial investigation.
Despite the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, no arrests have been made in connection with Cameron Briscoe's murder. Investigators have not publicly drawn any direct lines between his past criminal case and his untimely death, though the violent nature of both events has led to speculation about potential motives. The case officially remains open, with authorities continuing to seek any information that might lead to a breakthrough and provide answers to a community troubled by the unresolved violence.
