In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, a sense of loss befell a community in Gary, Indiana. On November 22, 2017, Jaymel Patterson, a 20-year-old Black male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, leaving family and friends to grapple with the sudden and violent end to a young life.
