On the evening of August 21, 2017, a Monday, 30-year-old Samuel Ghebremichael, a Black male, was shot and killed on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of North Emerson Avenue. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Ghebremichael with gunshot wounds.
Authorities have suggested that the shooting may have been the result of an argument.
Despite the ongoing investigation into the homicide, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Ghebremichael's death was one of a number of homicides that occurred in the city that year.
Family and friends gathered for a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the Temple of Praise Fellowship Church. He was later interred at Crown Hill Cemetery. The case remains unsolved, and investigators continue to seek information from the public.
