On a summer evening in Indianapolis, Indiana, a dispute that began over a seemingly innocent game of cornhole tragically escalated, ending the life of 43-year-old Jason Alan Frazier. The White male was fatally shot on June 4, 2019, in the parking lot of Drake's restaurant on East 82nd Street. An argument that started during the game spilled outside, leading to a physical altercation and ultimately, the shooting.
Frazier, a resident of nearby Fishers, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to the scene found Frazier on the ground and quickly took a suspect into custody. The individual was identified as 25-year-old Jean Eyongegbe. According to police, Eyongegbe was still in the parking lot when they arrived and had a weapon in his possession. Witnesses reported that the initial verbal disagreement inside the restaurant moved to the parking lot where it turned violent.
Following the investigation, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged Jean Eyongegbe with murder. The case proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a jury trial. On April 15, 2021, after hearing the evidence presented from both the prosecution and the defense, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty for Eyongegbe in the shooting death of Jason Alan Frazier.
