In the early morning hours of June 14, 2015, the Near Northside of Indianapolis was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 6:05 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1300 block of West 27th Street, where they discovered 49-year-old Gerald Darden suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Eskenazi Hospital, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal.
Gerald Walter Darden, known to his loved ones as 'Piggy,' was a resident of
Indianapolis. In the wake of his death, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department initiated a homicide investigation. Investigators believed that the shooting was not a random act of violence and that Darden may have been specifically targeted. However, the motive for the shooting remained unclear.
Despite their efforts, the investigation into Gerald Darden's murder quickly hit a standstill. No suspects were ever publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his death. The case grew cold due to a lack of new leads and information from the public, even with appeals from law enforcement for anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. To this day, the murder of Gerald Darden remains unsolved, and his family continues to await answers and justice.
