In the early hours of a Friday in Indianapolis, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of an east side neighborhood, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers. Gregory Joshua Newsome, Jr., a 34-year-old man, was found outside a home in the 6200 block of Eastridge Drive, near the intersection of East 10th Street and North Arlington Avenue, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The call reporting the shooting came in just after 1 a.m.
on September 12, 2025, prompting a swift response from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Newsome in critical condition. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where medical staff fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Gregory Newsome, Jr. succumbed to his injuries later that evening, and what began as a shooting investigation turned into a homicide case.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive in the case. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing closure to Newsome's family.
