In the early hours of July 5, 2025, the festive atmosphere of Indianapolis's Fourth of July celebrations was shattered by a mass shooting in the heart of downtown. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Illinois and Washington Street, claimed the life of 16-year-old Xavion Jackson and 15-year-old Azareaon S. Cole.
