In an east Indianapolis neighborhood, a simmering dispute rooted in a drug debt tragically boiled over, leading to the death of 49-year-old Jerome Warren. A Black male, Warren was fatally shot on April 9, 2014, in the front yard of his home located in the 5600 block of East 20th Street. The violence that cut his life short left his five children without their father, a man his brother described as someone who was focused on providing for them and would readily help others.
The
investigation into Warren's death pointed to an ongoing argument with an acquaintance, Curtis Foster. Authorities determined that the conflict stemmed from a drug debt Foster believed Warren was responsible for due to the actions of his ex-wife. This disagreement escalated dramatically on that April day, culminating in a fatal altercation in Warren's yard. For months, the case remained a priority for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department as they sought justice for Warren's family.
A significant breakthrough in the investigation came on July 18, 2014, when detectives received an anonymous tip regarding Foster's location. Acting on this information, officers were able to locate and arrest the then 43-year-old suspect without any resistance. Following his apprehension, Curtis Foster was formally charged with the murder of Jerome Warren and was held in custody without bond.
