On the night of November 19, 2023, a violent shooting occurred on the near northwest side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the lives of two young individuals. Among the victims was 22-year-old David Lee Swanigan, a Black male, who was seated in a vehicle near the intersection of West 29th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. The incident unfolded just before 11:00 p.m. when gunfire erupted, targeting the car occupied by Swanigan and 25-year-old Rosalba G.

According to investigators from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department the shooting likely initiated at the southwest corner of the intersection, where officers later recovered multiple shell casings. In an apparent attempt to flee the ambush, the vehicle was driven across the street to the northwest corner before colliding with a sign near a BP gas station and coming to a halt. Police arriving at the chaotic scene discovered both occupants suffering from gunshot wounds. Swanigan was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders, while Torres Arceo was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries.
Detectives investigating the double homicide have indicated that two men dressed in dark clothing were believed to be involved in the attack, though no specific descriptions of the suspects or a getaway vehicle were immediately available. As of mid-2024, no arrests had been reported in connection with the murders. The case remains open and active under the supervision of the IMPD Homicide Office, with Lead Detective Christopher Winter handling the investigation. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible.
