In the summer of 2021, a burst of gunfire on the near northeast side of Indianapolis set in motion a tragedy that would end a man's life two weeks later. On the evening of Tuesday, July 20, police were called to the 3400 block of North Temple Avenue after reports of shots being fired. Not long after, a 61-year-old man named Anthony Sterling was left at an Indianapolis Fire Department station on Sherman Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medical personnel at the fire station rendered
aid to Sterling before he was transported to a hospital for further treatment of his injuries. For fourteen days, he remained in medical care, fighting for his life. Tragically, on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, Anthony Sterling succumbed to the injuries he had sustained in the shooting. He was a male resident of Indianapolis.
Following his death, the investigation was a joint effort between the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Aggravated Assault and Homicide detectives. Authorities publicly asked for anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact the IMPD Homicide Office. As of now, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the death of Anthony Sterling. The case remains under investigation.
