On the evening of March 28, 2026, in an apartment complex on the northeast side of Indianapolis, 15-year-old TreVon Riggins was found shot near a playground. The incident was reported to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department at approximately 7:15 p.m. in the 3900 block of Rue Rebelais. First responders arrived to find the young man in critical condition. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Marion County Coroner's Office later officially confirmed his identity.
In the wake of his death, TreVon was remembered as a young man who was actively turning his life in a positive direction. According to his grandfather, Ottis Riggins, TreVon had experienced a difficult period, like many teenagers, but was determined to better himself. He had recently improved his school grades and was eager to work and earn his own money. His family was not unfamiliar with such tragedy, as Tre'Von's uncle had also been a victim of gun violence a decade earlier. His mother, Brandis, recalled him as a funny, hilarious, and goofy kid who was a natural entertainer.
TreVon was also an active participant in a youth mentorship and entrepreneurship program called NEW B.O.Y. Although he had only been a member for a few months, he had become a cherished part of the group, where he was developing his own business. Fellow members of the program described him as initially shy, but he had opened up and become like a brother to them. They mourned the loss of a young life full of potential, a sentiment echoed by his grieving family.
Investigators with the IMPD believe the shooting that took TreVon's life was a targeted incident. However, in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, they did not have any information regarding a suspect or suspects. The police appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest in the case. As of the days following his death, no arrests had been made, leaving his family and community searching for answers and justice.
