In the late summer afternoon of August 19, 2024, the life of 40-year-old Brandon Lerez Groves, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Indianapolis, Indiana. Police were dispatched to the 4100 block of West Vermont Street shortly after 2 p.m. following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Groves suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate aid rendered by officers and the swift response of emergency medical personnel, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Detectives began canvassing the neighborhood, seeking to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. At this time, it has not been determined if this incident was connected to another shooting that occurred around the same time on West Michigan Street. The investigation remains active and is being led by Detective Dustin Keedy.
