In the autumn of 2022, a grim discovery was made on the east side of Indianapolis. On the evening of Saturday, October 15, police received a call around 8:15 p.m. about a person lying in a ditch near the intersection of East 21st Street and Shoreland Drive. Responding officers arrived at the scene to find a young man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old La Juandric Furqan, a male.
The Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed his identity. In the wake of the shooting, investigators from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department began their work, seeking to piece together the events that led to Furqan's death. They publicly appealed for information, asking anyone who was in the vicinity of the Lake Marina Apartments around the time of the incident to come forward with any details they might have.
Despite the public call for assistance, information regarding a suspect or a possible motive has not been released. Detectives have been investigating the case, but as of late 2025, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the homicide of La Juandric Furqan.
