On a summer evening in South Bend, Indiana, the life of 33-year-old Isaiah Durham was tragically cut short. On June 7, 2019, Durham, a Black male, was shot and killed at the Indian Springs Apartments on the city's northwest side. The fatal incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. in the 2700 block of Buckskin Lane. When police arrived at the scene, they found Durham deceased from gunshot wounds.
The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the shooting.
Detectives began interviewing witnesses who were present at the apartment complex at the time of the incident. It was determined that other people were inside the apartment when the shooting took place. Investigators also received a description of a vehicle that may have been involved. An autopsy was scheduled for June 10, 2019, in Fort Wayne to officially determine the cause of death.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified two individuals they wanted to speak with in connection to the homicide. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit publicly named 24-year-old Diquan Kadeen Weeks and 23-year-old Dominique Herron as persons of interest. Investigators believed both individuals were in the apartment around the time Isaiah Durham was shot. At the time, law enforcement officials stated that no formal criminal charges had been filed against them and urged the public to provide any information on their whereabouts.
The investigation into Isaiah Durham's death has since grown cold, with no public announcements of arrests or charges being filed in his murder. One of the persons of interest, Dominique Herron, died on September 6, 2020. Her death was ruled a homicide, and another individual was charged in connection with her killing. There have been no further updates regarding the other person of interest, Diquan Kadeen Weeks, in relation to Durham's case. The shooting of Isaiah Durham remains an unsolved homicide.
