On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, 36-year-old Donald Lee Howard Jr., a Black male from Indianapolis, Indiana, was killed in a shooting incident on the city’s near northeast side. Police officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 8:00 a.m. following reports of a person shot. The incident occurred in the 3400 block of North Oxford Street, a residential area located near the intersection of East 34th Street and North Keystone Avenue.
Upon arriving at the location, first responders
discovered the victim inside a vehicle. He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel examined him at the scene, but he had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
