On a Friday evening in early May of 2020, the life of 18-year-old Daeon Harrison was tragically cut short in Indianapolis. The young man, a male, was behind the wheel of his car, driving north on Shadeland Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when a violent encounter left him with a fatal gunshot wound. In a desperate attempt to seek help, he managed to steer his vehicle across the median near East 46th Street, coming to a stop in the parking lot of a BP gas station.
It was there that concerned
citizens approached the car and discovered the grave nature of his injuries. They promptly called 911 for assistance. Paramedics arrived on the scene and quickly transported Harrison to IU Health Methodist Hospital in a struggle to save his life. Despite their efforts and the medical care he received, Daeon Harrison succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident was recorded as the first homicide in the city of Lawrence for that year.
The Lawrence Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting. Detectives began the arduous task of piecing together the events that culminated in the young man's death. In the initial stages of their inquiry, law enforcement officials did not release any information regarding a potential suspect or suspects. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the shooting death of Daeon Harrison. The case remains an open investigation as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring closure to his family.
