Forrest K. Howard, a 27-year-old male, was killed on Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Elkhart, Indiana. On that day, Howard was riding his bicycle near the 500 block of South 5th Street when he was attacked. The incident occurred during what authorities have described as a robbery attempt.
The perpetrator, Jordan Wolf, who was 22 years old at the time, confronted Howard. Wolf threw him to the ground and shot him three times before fleeing the scene.
The attack proved to be fatal for Howard, a former Elkhart Central High School graduate known for his love of life and his kind and generous heart. He was a beloved son and brother who enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Jordan Wolf was arrested and charged with the murder of Forrest Howard. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office also pursued a firearm enhancement to the murder charge, which could add significant time to his sentence. Wolf's case went to trial, and in August 2022, a jury found him guilty of murder after deliberating for just two hours. In addition to the murder conviction, Wolf pleaded guilty to the use of a firearm sentence enhancement.
In September 2022, Jordan Wolf was sentenced for his crimes. He received a 63-year sentence for the murder of Forrest Howard and an additional 12 years for the firearm enhancement, resulting in a total sentence of 75 years in prison.
