In the early morning hours of December 14, 2023, a violent altercation in the parking lot of the Galley Sports Pub in Elkhart, Indiana, cut short the life of 24-year-old Jalen Keashaun Young. A graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School, Young was known for his athletic abilities in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a hardworking individual, employed for over six years at Crystal Clear Pools in Osceola, where his colleagues admired his work ethic.
Young also had aspirations of becoming an actor and had recently signed with a talent agency.
The incident unfolded shortly before 12:30 a.m. when police received a call about a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds. One of the men, 30-year-old Michael Pike, was pronounced dead at the scene. Young was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A fight reportedly broke out between Young and another man in the parking lot, and Pike had attempted to intervene.
Police located and detained a suspect at the scene, identified as 22-year-old Christain Wall from North Carolina, who was found in a gray Ford Fusion near the victims. Wall appeared to be intoxicated and was slow to respond to police commands. A handgun was also found in the vehicle. He later told investigators that he did not remember fighting or shooting anyone. Wall was arrested on a preliminary suspicion of murder and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.
In June 2025, a jury found Christain Wall guilty on two counts of murder for the deaths of Jalen Young and Michael Pike. In addition to the murder convictions, Wall pleaded guilty to two firearm charges. His sentencing was scheduled for the following month. The tragic death of Jalen Young was described by his mother as a result of senseless gun violence, who made a public plea for people to resolve disputes without resorting to weapons.
