In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Fort Wayne, Indiana, tragedy struck, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers. On October 12, 2021, Johnny Mathes Foy III, a 39-year-old Black male, was found inside a vehicle on the 2300 block of John Street. Police had initially responded to reports of gunfire followed by a car crash.
Upon their arrival at approximately 10:43 PM, officers discovered Mr. Foy in the driver's seat of a Toyota Corolla, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation later revealed that he had been shot while inside his car, which then collided with a parked vehicle along the street.
An autopsy confirmed the grim reality of the situation; Johnny Mathes Foy III's death was a result of a gunshot wound to the chest, and the Allen County Coroner's Office officially ruled it a homicide. At the time, his death marked the 32nd homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for the year 2021.
In the wake of the shooting, the Fort Wayne Police Department launched an investigation, interviewing witnesses and appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for this violent act. Despite these efforts, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The case remains an open and active investigation, with no arrests having been made.
