Julian Valdez Fernandez, a 21-year-old resident of East Chicago, tragically lost his life following a shooting incident on June 19, 2022, in Hammond, Indiana. The incident occurred around 6:45 PM on the 600 block of Cherry Street, near Edison Park. According to witnesses, Valdez was attempting to stop two individuals who had allegedly stolen bicycles from the park. During the confrontation, one of the suspects shot Valdez in the lower abdomen.
