On July 17, 2022, a tragic shooting occurred at Don Challis Park in Beech Grove, Indiana, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Brandon Cortez-Newton. The incident, which also left three others injured, took place during a vigil for a recently deceased individual. According to reports, the shooting was described as a 'targeted and isolated' event by Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley.
