James Lewis Johnson, a 54-year-old man from Beech Grove, Indiana, died on June 8, 2015, after what authorities described as a police action shooting on South 4th Avenue.

Earlier that afternoon, police were dispatched to a situation described as a suicidal-person call. When officers arrived, Johnson was armed with a gun and positioned on a porch, where witnesses and police accounts said he waved the weapon and repeatedly demanded officers shoot him.
