In the quiet town of Beech Grove, Indiana, the life of 81-year-old Gene Thompson was tragically cut short on the cold winter day of January 7, 2018. He was resting in a hospital bed set up in his living room when his home was invaded by three individuals with robbery on their minds. The intruders were later identified as 17-year-old Corbin Page and two other juveniles.
Their planned robbery would soon escalate into a scene of violence and irreversible loss.
During the commission of the crime, another man in the house, 51-year-old Larry Pavey, was shot multiple times by Page. As Pavey fled through the home in an attempt to escape the gunfire, Page continued to discharge his weapon. It was in this chaotic moment that a bullet found its way to Gene Thompson, striking him in the chest. Mortally wounded, he was rushed for medical help but succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.
The subsequent investigation by the Grant County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police Lab was meticulous. The firearm used in the deadly shooting was recovered and, through forensic analysis, was linked to another crime committed by Corbin Page. While the two juveniles who accompanied Page faced charges of false informing, the broader investigation into Thompson's murder had a ripple effect, helping to solve several other open cases and leading to at least ten additional arrests.
