In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 9, 1992, a promising life was tragically cut short in the parking lot of the Newpoint Shopping Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Jason B. Walker, a 23-year-old black male, was fatally shot while leaving a nightclub. A United States Marine Corps reservist and a student at Norfolk State University, Walker had been inside the Bridge Nightclub watching a performance by rap artist Doo Doo Brown.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., as Walker was driving his red Chevrolet Beretta through the shopping center's parking lot, a chaotic scene unfolded. Witnesses reported seeing a man standing in front of the nightclub firing a handgun. A projectile from the weapon shattered the window of Walker's car, striking him in the head. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Walker was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The State Medical Examiner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspected shooter to the Virginia Beach Police. They described a black male, approximately 5' 10' tall, who was wearing a black leather coat. Despite this description, the case grew cold over the years. No arrests have ever been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Jason B. Walker, and his case remains an unsolved homicide with the Virginia Beach Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit.
