James B. Gilbert, a 28-year-old police officer from Norfolk, Virginia, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on September 28, 2001. Officer Gilbert was responding to a distress call regarding a man making suicide threats. The suspect, a member of the U.S. Navy, had contacted his father, expressing his intention to commit suicide.
