On a cool autumn evening in Norfolk, Virginia, tragedy struck a promising young life. Nineteen-year-old Shelton Jordan Jr., a resident of nearby Chesapeake, was on his way to a Halloween party on October 27, 2023. He never made it inside. At approximately 11:30 p.m., near the intersection of Berkley Avenue Extension and Todd Street, he was struck by a critical gunshot wound.
First responders found him and rushed him to the hospital, where he fought for his life for several days before succumbing to his injuries on November 1, 2023.
According to his mother, Shelton was shot from behind before he could even enter the party. The young man was remembered as a talented and kind-hearted individual with a bright future. He was a gifted cook and violinist, a dedicated student, and an active member of his community, serving at a local church and participating in the ROTC. Described as a friendly person who would give the shirt off his back, his sudden and violent death left his family heartbroken and searching for answers.
As of late 2024, a year after the fatal shooting, no arrests have been made in the case of Shelton Jordan Jr.'s death. The Norfolk Police Department's investigation remains ongoing, and they continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward. His family continues to plead for answers, hoping that someone will provide the information needed to bring justice for Shelton. The case remains a painful open wound for a community that lost a young man full of potential.
