In the quiet of a summer night in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 63-year-old Rolando E. Rogers, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2023, just before midnight, a call reporting an unresponsive person brought Norfolk Police to the 1300 block of Sunset Drive, near Chesapeake Boulevard. There, they discovered Mr. Rogers suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Norfolk Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. The community was left shaken by the violent loss of one of their own. As detectives began their work, they urged anyone with information to come forward, hoping for a lead that could bring justice for Mr. Rogers and his family.
