On the evening of August 6, 2020, a dispute inside a 7-Eleven on West Little Creek Road in Norfolk, Virginia, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 22-year-old Keyon Raheem Johnson. The altercation, which was captured on video surveillance, began when Robert Lee Vick Jr. was confronted by a group of four individuals.
The confrontation turned physical, and Vick, after being struck, pulled out a firearm and began shooting as the men attempted to flee the store.
Keyon Raheem Johnson, who was present during the initial confrontation but had not physically engaged Vick, was shot as he ran from the 7-Eleven. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Another man, 19-year-old Jamal M. Harvey, was also shot and killed during the incident, while a third man was wounded but survived.
Following the shooting, Robert Lee Vick Jr., then 22 years old, turned himself in to the Norfolk Police. He was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and firearm offenses. In June 2022, Vick pleaded guilty to amended charges of two counts of voluntary manslaughter, malicious wounding, and related firearm charges. On September 23, 2022, he was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for his role in the deaths of Keyon Raheem Johnson and Jamal M. Harvey.
